Spring and early summer

Sprigging is done in spring and early summer when active growths starts (autumn in tropical areas).

Turfing
You can produce an “instant” lawn by turning the prepared site with commercially grown grass soil. Turf are produce on a farm, cut in long strips (2m long by 70 cm wide), rolled up and delivered promptly, then rolled out again. Get a quote from a turf supplier first. Surfing is useful for steep sites. To prevent deterioration, lay turf on moistened bed within 2-3 days of delivery. Butt each section against the next, staggering cross joins like brickwork. Roll to level. Saturate turf as soon as enough land. Next day saturate lawn until base soil is wet to 8 cm. unless rain falls, water turf at least daily for the first 3-4 weeks. Turf can be laid any time but survives better in spring and autumn in extreme climates. florist manila delivery in USA with the help of philippinesflowersdelivery.com/

New lawn care
Watering: Once seed grown grasses are about 2 cm high, water less often but more thoroughly. Gradually reduce to a good soaking once or twice a week
Fertilizing
Eight weeks after sowing or planting give recommended lawn food to moist soil, and water well.

Mowing
Mow seed sown lawns when grass is 7 cm tall. Blades must be sharp and set high. Cut long for next 3-4 mowing’s. As grass fills out, lower blades. Runner grown lawn not cut until filled out. Time depends on closeness of planting, type of grass and growing conditions. Mow turf grown lawns after a fortnight.

Renovations
Aerate compacted lawns soil by interesting a garden fork 10 cm deep at 10- 15 cm intervals. To remove thatch (old stems and roots) cut lawn closely and rake.

Top dressing
Spread light, sandy loam evenly and lightly over lawn with back of rake (usually necessary only after aeration, removal of thatch or before over sowing).

Routine maintenance
Watering:
All lawn grasses grow best in moist, well-watered soils, but some soils stay moist longer than others. During the hottest summers, water daily; in water, a weekly deep soaking suffices. Always water in winter. Lawns go brown or yellow in winter more through lack of water than because of low temperatures.

Cutting
Mow more often in warmer months and weekly during mid-summer (fortnightly at least) to avoid a thick mat of spongy thatch that causes lawn problems.
