Our venue reminded us of a secret garden; ethereal and charming. The details

Spring and early summer

Sprigging is done in spring and early summer when active growths starts (autumn in tropical areas).

Turfing
You can produce an “instant” lawn by turning the prepared site with commercially grown grass soil. Turf are produce on a farm, cut in long strips (2m long by 70 cm wide), rolled up and delivered promptly, then rolled out again. Get a quote from a turf supplier first. Always water in winter. Lawns go brown or yellow in winter more through lack of water than because of low temperatures.

Cutting
Mow more often in warmer months and weekly during mid-summer (fortnightly at least) to avoid a thick mat of spongy thatch that causes lawn problems. 

Soil cultivation

Most lawn grasses (except couch) respond best to slightly acid soil, pH 6 to 6.5. Only if soil is very acid use lime (less than pH 5.7). Allow area to stand 2-3 weeks. Lightly hoe out weeds and rake deeply to bring up more weed seeds for destruction.

Fertilizing

Springs or runners are pieces of rhizome with both foliage and roots, cut 10 to 15 cm long. Prepare only each days planting or buy from a turf supplier, and keep covered with wet hessian.
Using a hoe, make furrows 5-7 cm deep and 30 cm apart in damp soil. Lay sprigs 15 to 20 cm apart; with a hairpin fix each spring firmly to soil. Firm soil around roots leaving green tops showing. Water immediately. Keep constantly moist for the first week to prevent sprigs from drying out and to encourage growth.

Flower - The Look

Sunny side up
A bright and beautiful village hall set the scene for Katie and Stu’s big day, awash with zingy yellow and peach details.

Katie 29, a corporate advisor, and Stu, 32 a manufacturing team leader, married at Morpeth Town Hall, with a drink reception at Whalton Manor gardens and a wedding breakfast at Walton Hall.

The atmosphere
We wanted to combine a quirky vintage tea party with a bright, summer inspired color scheme. Set in picturesque surroundings, Whalton village Hall had a floor to ceiling window which provided a beautiful backdrop to the top table. Even without decoration, the interior felt bright and airy, and provided us with a blank canvas to decorate with our own personal touches.

The look
My Alfred Angelo dress was light, and the simple but elegant shape was exactly what I’d wanted. I loved the idea of having mismatched bridesmaids dresses, so each of my seven girls chose their own navy blue gown paired with yellow shoes to add a splash of colors. Stu wore a grey suit with a navy blue tie and yellow socks. His buttonhole comprised a yellow rose, White veronica and craspedia and craspedia tied with twine.

The details
We hug yellow, pink and peach tissue paper pomp - pomp and lanterns from the ceiling, decorated glass jars with hessian, lace and ribbon, and filled these with colorful blooms which we displayed around the venue. The vintage crockery dotted between the jars only added to the colorful arrangements. We made a lot of the decorations ourselves. Stu made chalkboards which our friend Kat decorated, and I stamped our guests name onto luggage tags and tied one to each napkin with the handmade tissue papers flower. I also made left fortune cookies for each guest, with a chocolate and massage inside each one.

We wanted a traditional British wedding, and Hedsor House took our breath away as soon as we saw it. We were keen to have a country house venue and liked the fact our celebrations would be spread across several rooms. The look
We both love blue hydrangeas and this became the basis for our color palette. Leggy growth
Usually caused by insufficient light. Cut back leggy stems and move to a brighter position or outside in a shady place for recovery.

Brown leaf tips
Can be caused by too much water in winter, not enough humidity or locating the plant in draughts. Correct these conditions by eliminating each possibility.

Browning leaves and Ferns
This is natural. Just cut them off with scissors.

No flowers
Move plant to a well-lit spot.

Pruning
After planting, all young fruit trees need careful shaping and early systematic pruning. Deciduous fruit trees are normally pruned so that they will develop a vase shape. Wishing on a star artistic duo Ayse and Fred tied the knot in a whimsical wedding is stunning provence, France.

The atmosphere
We hosted a relaxed and whimsical day, which included subtle touches to represent our personalities and style. We have firm roots in France, and choose to marry in a privet hamlet filled with curiosities which complemented our love of art. Our venue was remote, a secret garden of hidden nooks and crannies with beautiful views over the Luberon valley. The muted color pallet complimented the natural surrounds and comprised a mix of blush pink, olive green, light blue, silver and white. The celebration took place under the stars, a motif which ran throughout the day.

The look
I wore two dresses: my ceremony dress was a 1920s vintage lace gown with a drop waist and calf length skirt. If fitted perfectly, which is rare for a vintage find. Put them in a shady, sheltered position away from harsh sunlight. Never put plants outside during winter. With sufficient plants you should be able to rotate a constant display inside and out.

African violet
These popular flowering house plants need very bright light, preferably from the east, to flower well. Use smallish pots or crowd into a large showy container. Dieffenbachia
There are several varieties of dieffenbachia. All have striking variegated green, cream or white leaves. They require warmth, filtered light and humid conditions. Allow soil to be reasonably dry before watering. Fertilize regularly in summer and spring. Leaves and stems have an irritating sap and should not be put near the mouth.

Dracaena
These beautifully marked plants with palm like leaves are extremely adaptable and are good for those who want a trouble free plant. These are several varieties. Provide bright indirect light and water thoroughly when the soil seems dry. Dracaenas shed their lower leaves as they increase in height. This is natural. If a branch becomes too tall cut it back. It will shoot again from the base. Shorten the cut piece and stick into composted soil. Keep moist. It should form a new plant.

Fatsia
Also known as Aralia sieboldii, this is one of the easiest indoor plants.
